[Rezension] Erich Vad - Ernstfall für Deutschland - Das gefährlichste Szenario
Dr. Erich Emmerich Hugo Vad is a retired Brigadier General of the German Armed Forces, a management consultant, author and university lecturer. During his military career, Vad studied history and earned his doctorate with a dissertation on the relevance of Clausewitz's military theory. In the German Armed Forces Vad served in the Army Reconnaissance Corps, was an advisor on security and defense policy to the German Bundestag in Berlin from 2000 to 2006 and from 2006 to 2013 as a group leader in the Federal Chancellery, Secretary of the Federal Security Council and military advisor to Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) in Berlin. In his 2024 book "Emergency for Germany - A Handbook Against War" he advocates for measures to prevent war in Europe and Germany.
Vad begins by describing a hypothetical scenario in which the war in Ukraine has spread to Germany. As a result significant damage has been inflicted in both Germany and Russia. Vad outlines the potential consequences and repercussions of this. And he provides a coherent explanation for the events he describes.
The most Dangerous Cause of Action
Vad warns of war in Europe and Germany. This is particularly likely because Germany is a logistical hub in Europe and the government is taking ever greater risks. Vad outlines the following hypothetical scenario.
Germany is supplying Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. Ukraine in turn is using these cruise missiles against the Crimean Bridge and other Russian targets in the Russian hinterland. In response and retaliation against Germany Russia destroys the Fehmarn Sound Bridge between the German island of Fehmarn and the mainland, as well as the MBDA factory in Schrobenhausen the site of the Taurus manufacturer. [1, p.9-13]

The German government therefore asked NATO to invoke Article 5 and relocated its headquarters to the East Coast of the USA. The US declared its intention to focus on the in-Pacific region (Pivot to Asia) and to deploy hardly any new troops to Europe. Meanwhile European NATO troops are being destroyed in Germany with long-range weapons. These European NATO troops move through Germany because it is the logistical hub in Europe. In response the US launched retaliatory strikes from Germany and continued the destruction on both sides. [1, p.15-16]
And while Russian long-range weapons are causing increasing damage in Germany the USA is refusing to help Germany and instead demanding support from Germany in the Intdo-Pacific against China. For Vad this development is a realistic and possible scenario if Germany is drawn into an escalating war in Ukraine. Vad argues that Germany is threatened by this scenario due to a lack of preparation and prevention. Germany has not prepared for a crisis pursuing neither a peace policy nor a war policy. Because Germany has forgotten what is in its national interest and how geopolitically unfavorable our country is. Germany has no independent foreign policy other than unconditional loyalty to the US. [1, p.21-25]
