-> NEWS - Sebastian Kurz's People's Party ahead in Austria election: projection
Projections based on a partial count in Austria's parliamentary vote show ex-Chancellor Sebastian Kurz's People's Party (ÖVP) in a leading position. The conservative party is likely to form a coalition government.
...
Exit polls released by Austrian public broadcaster ORF showed Kurz's party projected to get 37.2%, an increase of 5.7% compared with the 2017 election.
The far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ) was set to lose 10 percentage points and could get 16%, a sign that a corruption scandal appeared to have damaged the party's reputation.
The center-left Social Democrats were projected to lose 4.9 percentage points and receive 22%, the party's worst results since World War II.

-> Politics - Hong Kong Invokes Rare Emergency Powers to Ban Masks at Protests
Hong Kong invoked colonial-era emergency powers for the first time in more than half a century to ban face masks for protesters, a move that risks spurring even more intense clashes in months of violent unrest.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Friday the move was necessary to stem increased violence in recent weeks, including attacks by protesters using petrol bombs, corrosive liquids and other weapons. The prohibition on face masks will deter violence and help police enforce the law, she said, adding that the measure didn’t mean Hong Kong was under a state of emergency.
...
KEY POINTS FROM THE BRIEFING:
Face mask ban takes effect on Saturday
Penalties include up to a year in jail or fine of HK$25,000 ($3,190)
Exemptions for religious, professional and medical purposes
Additional measures to be considered if violence continues
Government won’t introduce capital controls
Necessary to stem violence to safeguard investment environment
Legislature will review decision this month
District council elections next month to go on as planned

-> Does the state works with Islamists and Turkish nationalists?
Several federal states are working together with the Central Council of Muslims - and are now being criticized. Experts accuse them of courting extremists indirectly. This is also evident in NRW.
In Cologne, according to the German constitutional protection agency, the headquarters of the German Muslim Brothers - a worldwide Islamist organization that intends to establish a theocracy in Germany - is in the process. They are organized in this country in the German Muslim Community (DMG). The DMG in turn is a member of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany (ZMD), one of the four Islamic umbrella organizations. The ZMD chairman Aiman ??Mazyek has a very strong media presence and is gladly invited by the leaders of German politics on official occasions. In federal states such as NRW, the ZMD is also allowed to help shape Islamic religious instruction and to fill in forums for the representation of Muslims.
Is that acceptable? Should the state work with a federation that Islamists influence? Last week, the state parliament in NRW argued - representing many West German states, which are facing similar issues. The AfD faction had requested to cease cooperation with the ZMD until the Islamists banish from its ranks. All other parties rejected this, however, because the cooperation helps the ZMD but to counteract the "negative influence of extremists" (as the CDU politician Marc Blondin).
...
In the current annual report, the NRW constitution protection also describes the strategy of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB). They tried to transform the majority society "in the sense of their Islamist agenda" and deceived their interlocutors. Freedom advocates, "the DMG and the network with their cooperating organizations" pursued, despite opposing assurances above all one goal: the establishment of Islamic God-states, in the final analysis, also in Germany ". This is threatening, because in the long run go out of such legally operating Islamists a greater danger than by Jihadists who will never gain influence on larger sections of the population.
In order to grasp what the MB is aiming at, it is worth taking a look at its mastermind: Qatari-based preacher Yusuf al-Qaradawi. According to him, there is only one solution for Europe: Sharia law. Only when flogging or capital punishment for adultery, homosexuality and apostasy are imposed by Islam, God's will is done. Qaradawi also believes that a suicide bombing of Israelis is legitimate and that Hitler is a tool of God to educate the Jews. Even moderate beating of women, he considers allowed.
...
Ali Ertan Toprak becomes even clearer. He explains Mazyek's protestations for "implausible" and the parties' hope for a self-cleansing of the ZMD for illusory. Because: "The ZMD is requested at least since the first German Islam Conference in 2006, to separate from Muslim Brothers and nationalists. And what happened? Nothing! "Neither did the ZMD get rid of one or the other. And he would not. In fact, Mazyek declined against the "WAZ" to exclude the DMG from the ZMD. In this case, the Free Protection Commissioner observes with concern that the influence of DMG is growing. Although it has only hundreds nationwide, NRW more than 80 leaders, but these reached tens of thousands of Muslims nationwide. And because of the successful mission among immigrants, this influence is currently increasing.

-> Federal Minister of Justice - "We have to become active as a constitutional state"
Federal Justice Minister Lambrecht has announced a number of legislative changes in the fight against right. It aims at tightening up the Network Enforcement Act as well as the reporting and firearms legislation.
Federal Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht wants to tighten some laws with regard to the threat from the right. In the report from Berlin she said that the threat of right-wing terror should not be underestimated. "We must become active as a constitutional state and act."
The SPD politician spoke again for a tightening of the Network Enforcement Act. In future, platform operators will be required to report offenses such as incitement or death threats to investigative authorities. The law, passed two years ago, commits Internet platforms to a harder crackdown on hatred, hate speech and terrorist propaganda. Clearly criminal contents must be deleted within 24 hours, on user complaints should react after 48 hours at the latest.

note:
Freedom of expression and democracy go hand in hand. For the free competition of ideas the possibility to get to know information and ideas and to be heard is by definition indispensable. Exceptions are the call for crimes and appeals that can disturb public peace such as the false warning of fire in cramped rooms. Everything else would be a some sort of dictatorship.
Censorship of hatred would require people or rules from people who distinguish hatred from criticism. In any case it would be people to differentiate. Hate and criticism however have a common intersection of interpretation depending on one's own position. In addition it is not yet clear whether the statement or the position of the addressed person is questionable or illegitimate. Thus a censorship would again be a projection of power even if it was driven by morality.
