Mathew D. Rose – Europeans Deserve Better Than This
The EU has failed its citizens. It runs amok directed by Germany’s ossified and frail leader Angela Merkel, and a political class that primarily values its own entitlement.
If you asked me for a metaphor for the European Union today, it would be the ossified, frail German leader Angela Merkel – our Abdelaziz Bouteflika – sitting in the middle of the EU web, telephoning one “illiberal” east European leader after the other, drumming up support for her discredited, scandal-ridden defence minister, Ursula von der Leyen, as president of the European Union.

Politics - Seized Ship Riah's Charterer Denies Iran Fuel-Smuggling Rap
A small oil tanker that Iran accused of smuggling fuel was empty of any cargo when Iranian forces seized it at gunpoint in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this month, according to the company that chartered the ship.
Iran impounded the tanker Riah when it was scheduled to sail to Oman to load fuel for further shipment to Berbera in Africa’s Somaliland, said Rishi Kumar, who heads the charterer, KRB Petrochemicals. He denied Tehran’s assertion that the Riah was smuggling 1 million liters of fuel -- about half its capacity -- out of Iran and intended to transfer the cargo to foreign vessels.

NEWS - Kosovo PM Haradinaj resigns after court summons on suspicion of war crimes
Kosovo prime minister and former guerilla commander Ramush Haradinaj gave up his post after being summoned as a war crimes suspect before a special court. He has already been acquitted twice before in The Hague.
...
Third trip to The Hague
Previously, Haradinaj was charged with war crimes at the now-defunct International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague. He was already forced to step down as prime minister in 2005 after a summon from the ICTY.
The UN court acquitted him in 2008, but that ruling was later declared invalid due to reports of witness intimidation. The court eventually upheld the verdict in 2012.
Even so, he was detained in Slovenia in 2015 and France in 2017 over a separate arrest warrant filed by Serbia for alleged war crimes.
Haradinaj is now to appear before the Kosovo Specialist Chamber, an EU-backed body set up in 2015 and also based in The Hague. The Chamber is ruled by Kosovo law, but funded by the EU and staffed by international judges and prosecutors.

Greenhouse Poll - Greens followers fly the most - and have the worst conscience
Traveling by plane and at the same time being against flying: A survey shows how climate protection poses problems especially for Green voters.
...
On the one hand, the demo-scores wanted to know whether respondents had flown at least once in the last twelve months. 46 percent of the Green voters answered in the affirmative. They were thus ahead of the supporters of all other parties. Close behind them were the FDP voters (45 percent), followed by voters from the CDU / CSU (40 percent), the left 32 percent and the SPD (31 percent). At the back were the AfD voters. Only 26 percent said they had flown last year. Among all respondents, 37 percent flew last year.
On the other hand, the research group wanted to know elections, whether the respondents have a bad conscience when they fly. 58 percent of the Green voters said in the survey about their flying ash . These scruples are also widespread among supporters of the other parties on the left, with the SPD at 52 percent, those at the left 50 percent. Flugscham also expressed 42 percent of FDP voters. At the bottom of the scale are the voters of CDU / CSU (35 percent) and AfD (31 percent).

THE PROBLEM OF IMMIGRATION: Southeastern Europe is bleeding
In the countries of Southeastern Europe, a demographic time bomb is ticking: with few exceptions, the birth rate is not higher or even lower than in Germany - at the same time, young people are migrating in droves to north-western Europe.
Germany is getting fuller. Last year, about 400,000 more people came here than moved away from here. Most newcomers, almost 290,000, came from member states of the European Union or other countries of the continent. Leading in the statistics is Southeastern Europe. The Romanian diaspora in Germany increased by 68,000 people.
Also Croats (29,000) and Bulgarians (27,000) are attracted to Germany. On average, 74 Bulgarians, 79 Croatians and 185 Romanians left their homeland every day. Day by day a small village goes.
...
Sounds reasonable. The skilled workers find a job in Germany and at the same time reduce the unemployment rate of their countries of origin, which also benefit from the remittances of the migrants back home.
But it is not so clear. GIZ assures that it only cooperates with countries with a "surplus" of well-trained nurses. But in Southeastern Europe this is no longer the case everywhere, on the contrary. In many places there is a shortage of doctors and nurses. The situation is getting more difficult every year. This is also because, with a few exceptions, the birth rate in these countries is not higher or even lower than in Germany.
At the same time, young people migrate in droves to north-western Europe, while wages in the Balkans are usually not high enough to attract labor migrants from third countries. In Southeastern Europe, a demographic time bomb is ticking.

SPECIES PROTECTION - Wind Energy and Birds: "The number of victims is much higher than expected"
For proponents of the energy transition, it is an inconvenient fact: wind power is demanding more and more victims among birds, bats and insects. "Good for the climate, bad for nature?" That's why the cover story of the current GEO magazine is called. We talked to author Johanna Romberg about the dilemma
...
Are there any efforts to make wind turbines "birdproof"?
Yes, there are systems under development that shut down installations as certain particularly endangered birds approach. But the practicality of these systems has not been proven. What is already in use today is software that automatically stops rotors in certain weather conditions where bats fly preferentially. But there is no obligation to retrofit existing plants. The safest way to prevent birds from colliding, as I said, is to maintain sufficient distance from the resting and breeding areas during construction.

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is sworn in as Federal Minister of Defense. In her first policy statement, she calls for a "steadily growing budget" for her department.

Kramp-Karrenbauer also emphasized the reliability of Germany as a member of NATO. "We are a reliable ally," she said. "We know which side of the table we're sitting on." That's another reason why she stands by the financial obligations: "I therefore hold fast to the Federal Government's goal of targeting two percent of the gross domestic product - a goal on which all our allies have repeatedly agreed."

However this is sold to the public as taking on responsibility or even as an increase of sovereignty. It is then pretende as if one can no longer rely on the US government. To pretend as if one acts against the US government while following its orders is clever because it undermines established patterns of thinking. But in fact the development is larger. As early as 2012 then-President Barack Obama announced a pivot to Asia and thus sent the message to the NATO member states in Europe that in the future they have to count on fewer resources from the USA. However in 2014 NATO also stated in Wales that the unification of Crimea with Russia requires a strong stance from NATO. [10] [11] [12] [13]
